SIGHTSEEING
You will find few parts of Scotland offer such variety in easy reach. Loch Ness with its monster, the beautiful village of Drumnadrochit, Skye and the west coast, the rugged North Highlands and the fertile east coast with the Whisky trail. These are just a few of the day trips possible from Inverness.

EXPLORE THE CITY
You'll find shops, restaurants and friendly pubs with traditional music. Visit the castle, museum, cathedral, art gallery, floral hall and theatre. Or why not take a guided walking tour of the city to learn about its long history or be brave and take the ghost walk? There is never a moment without something to do! (Click here for Local Events List)

Inverness Cathedral & River Ness
On summer evenings, enjoy the long daylight hours by strolling along the river to the tranquil Ness Islands and see the anglers catching fish.

Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness LOCH NESS
Just a few miles from Inverness is Loch Ness with the legendary monster and a visit to the village of Drumnadrochit is a must. There you can see monster exhibitions, shops and excellent cafes as well as a kids' play farm. You can also explore the ruins of Urquhart Castle.
Boat trips operate from numerous places around the loch and you can try Nessie spotting on the sonar.
CASTLE COUNTRY
Visit the delightful castles of Cawdor and Brodie on the way to Nairn. Or located beside Inverness is the fateful Culloden Battlefield and the historic Fort George which is still used as an Army barracks to this day.

EAST COAST AND WHISKY TRAIL
The A96 takes you along the coast to Moray where there are more distilleries than you could visit in one day, especially if you were tasting at them all. You will drive past famous names such as Macallan, Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and Aberlour. The latter is also home to the famous shortbread maker Walkers.

SKYE & THE WEST COAST
Take a day trip to the west coast through some of the finest scenery in the area. Picturesque Eilean Donan Castle on the road to Skye is well worth a stop.

NORTH
Visit the historic villages of the Black Isle and see the Cromarty Firth dolphins. Or drive up to Dornoch where Madonna was married. Along this northern coastline you reach some of the finest beaches and golf courses in Scotland. For a long and adventurous day out, take the bus trip to Orkney and back via the John o'Groats ferry.
